Codegarden 2010, day 2

Well, it's been an action packed day 2 at CodeGarden 2010. We arrived bright and early for the Happiness Officer to give us some motivational excercises; then straight into the keynote speech from Umbraco creator Niels Hartvig outlining the feature list for the newly released Umbraco 4.5 (which is a significant update to say the least), as well as the future MVC version 5.

To get the best out of the day myself and Dan split up and took advantage of all of the sessions we could pack into 8 hrs :

  • Website search with Examine
  • Solving ecommerse challenges with Umbraco and UCommerce
  • Secrets of the umbraco ninja, TDD
  • User Friendly integration with legacy systems
  • XSLT: Going beyond <xslt-for-each>
  • Integrating a 3rd party service with the Umbraco back-end
  • Crowdsourcing via Facebook

We're both agreed that we have armed ourelves with some great tips, and it's been a fun and very useful day to boot.  It's also been nice to put faces to names, including Umbraco luminaries  Dirk De Grave, Lee Kelleher, Lee Messenger, Richard Hayes and many, many more. We're looking forward to tomorrow when we can expect to find out more about the future of Umbraco, namely version 5 and the move to the MVC framework.
