Change to cookie laws

We've recently became aware of the proposed new EU Directives on the use of cookies. It seems as though there's alot of change afoot - and we're very interested to see how this is received in the digital market.

As you may or may not be aware, cookies are used by just about every website which needs to identify its users; everytime you use Facebook, cookies are stored; whenever you add something to your Amazon shopping cart, cookies are stored. In fact, cookies are stored by so many websites that the EU has felt compelled to make some bold directives regarding their use, and these directives will become law in May 2011.

We are delighted to offer you to read this report (word format) on cookie laws authored for us by Claire Shepherd a Scottish IP/IT Solicitor which details the current law, and the changes which will come into force very soon. Very interested to hear your thoughts on the matter!

Here's hoping that the UK and other EU governments have the sense to see how destructive this directive potentially is to the Internet advertising, online marketing data analysis and the web's overall user-experience. Perhaps to avoid loosing face it will be simply ignored by all governments?
